·         Pathogenic bacteria are uncommon in humans

·         True cells

·         Feed by extra-cellular digestion

·         Reproduce asexually by spore production

·         Consist of fruiting bodies and fine threads called hyphae

·         Chitin, not cellulose is a major component of fungal walls.

·         Fungi cannot photosynthesize.

·         Fungal nutrition is from breakdown of dead organic material; they are called saprophytes.

·         Fungi are haploid

·         Some fungi are macroscopic (mushrooms) and some are microscopic (yeast).  Some are edible, some are toxic, some are parasitic, and some are pathogenic  (disease-causing).
