Period 3 Elements with Oxygen:

Sodium        4Na(s) + O2(g) ---> 2Na2O(s)

Sodium        2Na(s) + O2(g)  ---> Na2O2(s)

Magnesium     2Mg(s) + O2(g) ---> 2MgO(s)

Aluminium     4Al(s) + 3O2(g) ---> 2Al2O3(s)

Silicon       Si(s) + O2(g) ---> SiO2(s)

Phosphorus    P4(s)   + 5O2(g) ---> P4O10(s)

Sulphur       S(s)  + O2(g) ---> SO2(g)

Sulphur       2S(s)  + 3O2(g) ---> 2SO3(g)

Chlorine does not react directly with water but Cl2O does exist.

Period 3 Elements with Chlorine:

Sodium       2Na(s) + Cl2(g)---> 2NaCl(s)

Magnesium    Mg(s) + Cl2(g) ---> MgCl2(s)

Aluminium    2Al(s)+ Cl2(g) --->  AlCl3(s)

Aluminium    2Al(s)+ 3Cl2(g)---> Al2Cl6(g)

Silicon      Si(s) + Cl2(g) ---> SiCl4(l)

Phosphorus   2P(s) + Cl2(g) --->  2PCl3(l)

Phosphorus   PCl3(s) + Cl2(g) ---> PCl5(s)

Sulphur      S(s) + Cl2(g)  --->   SCl2(l)

Period 3 Elements with Water:

Sodium       2Na(s) + Cl2(g)---> 2NaCl(s)

Magnesium    Mg(s) + H2O(g) --->  MgO(s)+ H2(g)

Chlorine     Cl2(g) + H20 ---> HOCl(aq) + HCl(aq)

Sulphur, phosphorus and silicon don't react.

Aluminium    2Al(s)+ Cl2(g) --->  AlCl3(s)
